He is the author of Last Days of the Sicilians: At War with the Mafia, Once Through the Heart, and a history of the Stork Club among other works.

The two most acclaimed documentary filmmakers of their generation, brothers Ric and Ken Burns, talk with Ralph Blumenthal about the business and art of their craft. Both detail their training and struggles with early films, the passionate approach to their filmmaking, and why they view themselves as movie makers first and only "faux historians" second. Of special note are their critical comments about the film Gangs of New York and their struggle to balance popular storytelling with accurate history.
