Publisher's Summary:

Harold Bloom is a Sterling Professor of Humanities at Yale University, Berg Professor of English at New York University and a former Charles Eliot Norton Professor at Harvard. The author of more than twenty books, including the recent Genius and the best selling The Western Canon, The Book of J, and Shakespeare: Invention of the Human. He is a MacArthur Prize fellow, a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the recipient of many awards and honorary degrees.

John Darnton, the New York Times associate editor for special projects, is a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter and best selling novelist who has worked for The New York Times for 36 years.

Harold Bloom delves into the complex and twisted psyche of Hamlet the man and corresponding complexities of the play, exposing layer upon layer of fascinating new ways to appreciate Shakespeare's masterpiece. Bloom doesn't suffer fools gladly and his witty and articulate asides lighten his brilliant literary analysis. Darnton is an able interviewer, probing with wit and insight into some of the mythology around Bloom's preeminent status as a professor of humanities and outspoken cultural critic.
